SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/ldif2ldbm-i ldif-input-file[-d debug-level] [-f slapd-config-file][-j number-of-jobs]/usr/sbin/ldif2index-i ldif-input-file[-d debug-level] [-f slapd-config-file]attribute-name

DESCRIPTION
These programs are used to convert a database in text LDIF LDAPDirectory Interchange Format (LDIF) to an LDBM database suitablefor use byslapd(8).Normally, onlyldif2ldbmis invoked by you. It will invoke the other programs as necessary.Occasionally, it may be necessary to invoke them by hand. Forexample, to create a new index file for an existing database, theldif2indexprogram can be invoked. Theldbmcat(8)program is used to do the reverse conversion.

OPTIONS
The first three options apply to all four programs. The -j option isonly for the
ldif2ldbmprogram.
- -i ldif-input-file
- This option specifies the location of the LDIF input file containingthe database to convert. It is required.
- -d debug-level
- Turn on debugging as defined bydebug-level.Some general operation and status messages are printed for any value ofdebug-level. debug-level is taken as a bit string, witheach bit corresponding to a different kind of debugging information. See <ldap.h> for details.
- -f slapd-config-file
- This optionSpecifies theslapdconfiguration file. The default is/etc/slapd.conf.
- -j number-of-jobs
- This option only applies to theldif2ldbmprogram. It specifies the level of parallelism to use when doing theconversion.ldif2ldbminvokes several other programs during the conversion process,most notably one invocation ofldif2indexfor each indexed attribute that appears in the LDIF input file. The -joption tellsldif2ldbmhow many of these other programs it should run in parallel. This canspeed up the conversion, but beware of starting too many processesin parallel, all competing for disk, memory, and cpu resources. Thedefault is one.
EXAMPLES
To convert the file
ldif.inputinto an LDBM database with indexes as described in the
slapdconfig file
/usr/local/etc/slapd.conf,give the command:
/usr/sbin/ldif2index -i ldif.input -f /usr/local/etc/slapd.conf
To do the same, but running two conversion sub-processes at a time,give this command:
/usr/sbin/ldif2index -i ldif.input -f /usr/local/etc/slapd.conf -j 2
