NAME

imisc - miscellaneous network service -- initiator

SYNOPSIS

imischost[ prefix arguments ][operation [ arguments ... ] ]

DESCRIPTION

The imisc program requests an operation fromthe miscellaneous network serviceprovided by a server using remote operations services. The currently supported operations are:

operation descriptionutctime the universal timegentime the generalized timetime the current time since the epochusers the users logged in on the systemchargen the character generation patternqotd the quote of the dayfinger the finger of users logged inpwdgen some pseudo-randomly generated passwordstell send a message to a remote userping ping test for performance measurementsink sink test for performance measurementecho echo test for performance measurement

This program initiates remote operations to the ``isodemiscellany'' service.

The prefix arguments are used to direct how many times the performancemeasurement tests should run:the `-c count' switch indicates the number of iterations to try,and the `-l length' switch indicates the number of octets to send asuser data for each iteration.

If no operation is given on the command line, then imisc enters interactive mode:imisc will examine each line of the standard-input,treating the first word as the operation, and any remaining words asarguments.(Currently, only the finger operation takes arguments.)

The pseudo-operations help and quit do the obvious things.
