Description :
Kat is an application for Linux/KDE designed to create catalogs of computer media collections.
Meta information, full text and thumbnails are extracted from documents, images, mp3 and other media
allowing immediate and accurate information retrieval.
Similar to the well known Windows application WhereIsIt, but also similar to the Google Desktop Search
application, Kat is completely written in C++, using the STL, QT3, Magick++, KDE and KIO libraries.
The application is based on an extensible plugin architecture in order to facilitate the creation of
new media managers for emerging file formats.
Information retrieval relies on the powerful SQLite3 embedded database engine which guarantees high
performance even with extremely large amounts of data.
